"C'est de l'imprononcé que la forme prend corps. La tragédie, c'est l'art du silence."
- Romeo Castellucci
Vox in Tragoedia
is a working component of Tragedia Endogonidia
by Raffaello Sanzio
co-founder Chiara Guidi in collaboration with the composer Scott Gibbons.
More than a performance of vocal music, it is a disciplined sequel of trials,
tests, and constructions whose fundamental purpose is the shaping of a
series of pre-determined and precise ideas through deliberate
experimentation, as opposed to the search for topic-less ideas through
instinctive experimentation. The artists decidedly approach the role of
hazard or instinct in the creation process as a thoroughfare toward a goal
(the idea), rather than as a goal in itself.
Tragedia
endogonidia is a research project on the future of tragedy carried out
over a number of years by Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio. It is based
above all on the possibility of constructing dramaturgy with the voice and the
sound derived from it. The dramatic cycle, performed by Socìetas
Raffaello Sanzio, unfolds over three years in Cesena, Avignon, Berlin,
Brussels, Bergen, Paris, Rome, Strasbourg, Marseille, and
London.
This laboratory is in
preparation of B.#03 Berlin and Br.#04 Bruxelles, and is the
culmination of the artists' two-week residency at the
Museum of Contemporary
Art Chicago.
Honoured on several
occasions with the UBU award, Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio was singled
out in 2000 for the 7th Prix Europe -Nouvelles Réalités
Théâtrales
by the Union of Theatres of Europe and the European
Theatre Convention. Tragedia is their fourth production
with the music of Scott Gibbons, following Giulio Cesare,
Genesi:
from the museum of sleep, and Il
Combattimento. For the present, Gibbons continues the research
with the Socìetas in the direction of an "organic theatre" which
is constantly mutating and advancing, like an organism which explodes
out of the shell of theatre to embrace new combinations of contemporary
and classic art.
